Colorful impressions of wild & urban dwellers

mallard duck

This hand-pulled reduction linocut captures a mallard drifting through rippling blue water, its golden-brown feathers illuminated against shifting light. The intricate carved lines in the water contrast with the layered texture of the plumage, creating movement and depth within a still moment. Inspired by local mallard ducks observed on the ponds of St. John’s, Newfoundland, this piece reflects the quiet familiarity of everyday wildlife and the shifting light of coastal waters.

Created using the reduction printmaking method, each colour was printed from the same block, carved away in stages. As a result of this process, the linoleum piece is gradually destroyed, making the edition truly limited.

Printed by hand in a small edition – only 20 prints on recycled cotton paper. The size of the image is 8×10 inches with a margin of 12×14 inches.

Perfect for collectors of original printmaking, wildlife art, and nature-inspired interiors.

From top left to bottom right, you can see how the layers of ink were applied on top of each other to create the final image.
